The second infantry assault wave

The 2nd wave of assault of the Infantry and Rangers
in Vierville between 07:00 and 08:00

A second group of assault waves hit the ground between 07:00 and 08:00, bringing infantry reinforcements.
But he found only small and dispersed American forces on the beach in Vierville:

-about thirty tanks, firing from the beach, they quickly neutralized the 3 anti-tank guns of Vierville, but they could not neutralize the German field artillery, nor the machine gun nests
-the surviving half of the company C/2°Ranger under the cliff west of the Gambier house, and
- the remains of 3 teams of the SETF Engineers who managed to create a single corridor in the obstacles in front of villa Richard.
- Company A/116 landed under the bunkers of Vierville no longer existed.
-The G/116 Cie that should have landed on Dog White was far beyond Saint-Laurent,

As a result, there were still no assault infantry on Dog White and Dog Green sectors.

The sea quickly climbed in the midst of obstacles and German fire was attracted by the few scattered troops and tanks. The Dog White area had the privilege of often being masked by fire smoke on the cliffs and being away from the WN of Vierville and Saint-Laurent.

It was then that many of the Rangers and Infantry companies of the 2nd Wave, totalling 700 men, had the chance to land there with relatively little loss, at the same time as the Staff of the 116th Regiment and General Cota who would play an exceptional role in the first line,
At the same time and in the same place, 2 LCI landed several hundred engineers before being burned on the spot by German artillery.

Half a dozen infantry barges that had not turned away from Dog Green suffered the same losses as the first wave.

Collection document: The second infantry assault wave

On Dog Green and Dog White, (in front of Vierville), were to land (in addition to Company A/116), the rest of the 1st Battalion (Cies B, C, D) and many Rangers (in total 40 LCA and LCVP). They dispersed, but a good part managed to approach Dog White with little loss.
Company B/116 with its 7 LCA dispersed from "Charlie" to "Dog White". It suffered heavy losses and only 3 sections were able to play an important role, one of them by climbing the cliff, passing quickly through Vierville and blocking the first German reinforcements at the Ormel.
Company C/116 landed well grouped and with little loss on Dog White, protected by smoke. In the late morning, she was able to secure the final capture of Vierville through the cliff.
Company D/116(the heavy weapons of the 1st Battalion/116) dispersed on Dog Green and Dog White and lost much of its equipment there.
The Cies A and B of the 2nd Bat. Rangers landed at the Dog Green/Dog White border, and lost half of their numbers, but they managed to climb the cliff and quickly enter Vierville.
The 6 A to F companies of the 5th Bat de Rangers landed on Dog White, without loss, behind Cie C/116 and they followed to Vierville in the morning.
The staff of the 1st Battalion of the 116th Regiment, with its 3 LCA, wandered under the cliff near the Percaea. The men of the General Staff remained trapped there with heavy losses until the afternoon.
The LCI 91 and 92, the first large ships to be approached on Dog White, were able to unload with some losses from the 147th Beach Engineers Battalion and 7th Naval Beach Battalion
The LCT 2227 was able to unload its 3 tanks late, including a tankdozer, on Dog Green.

But on Dog White, the 9 LCVP who were to land the K/116 Cie of the 3rd Battalion, and 2 sections of the H/116 Cie (heavy weapons of the 2nd Battalion) were deported by the current and found themselves east of Saint-Laurent, without being able to carry out their missions on Vierville.
