Permitted under the stated conditions
A non-commercial presentation or blog
Use one of Yves’s texts in a free presentation or personal article with no commercial purpose, including his name, the source, a licence link and details of any changes.
Share knowledge · Respect the sources
This collection was assembled to share a documented history of Omaha Beach. You may refer to it and reuse texts covered by the licence below, crediting their authors and sources.
Texts, photographs, maps, eyewitness accounts and other works on this website are protected by copyright where they meet the legal requirements for protection. Being available online does not make them free of rights.
The licence described here applies to Yves Cordelle’s original texts for which his heirs hold the rights, unless otherwise stated. The introductory texts written for this redesign are also available under CC BY-NC 4.0. This licence does not automatically extend to third-party photographs, maps, letters, reports, eyewitness accounts or quotations reproduced in the collection. Those materials retain their own authorship, credits and reuse conditions, even when they appear on a page written by Yves.
Public-domain materials and uses covered by a legal exception remain usable under the rules that apply to them. If you are unsure about a credit or a document’s origin, contact us before reproducing it.
Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial 4.0 International
CC BY-NC 4.0
This licence allows you to copy, share, translate and adapt the relevant texts for non-commercial purposes. In return:
Non-commercial use is not primarily intended for commercial advantage or monetary compensation. Free access or non-profit status alone is therefore not enough to determine whether a use is non-commercial. Other applicable rights, including moral rights and image rights, must still be respected.
See the licence summary and its full legal text, which is authoritative.
A link to a page directs readers to the document and its context. A useful reference gives the actual author of the passage, the document’s title and its permanent URL. Yves Cordelle assembled the collection; he did not write every account it contains.
The exception for short quotations is separate from the licence. Subject to the conditions ofArticle L. 122-5 of the French Intellectual Property Code, it permits a brief extract justified by critical, polemical, educational, scientific or informative purposes, with clear acknowledgement of the author and source.
A quotation must remain proportionate both to the quoted text and to the work in which it appears. No word count or percentage is automatically permitted. Distinguish the extract from your own words, mark omissions and preserve its meaning. Merely crediting a source does not grant permission to reproduce an entire article or photograph.
Legal exceptions may apply independently of the licence, including in a commercial context when their conditions are met.

For an eyewitness account, photograph or other third-party document, use its author’s name and reproduce its exact credit. Add a Creative Commons notice only if an applicable licence is explicitly stated for that item.
The examples of licensed reuse apply only to texts covered by CC BY-NC 4.0.
Permitted under the stated conditions
Use one of Yves’s texts in a free presentation or personal article with no commercial purpose, including his name, the source, a licence link and details of any changes.
Permitted under the stated conditions
Translate a text covered by the licence, identify it as your translation and retain the credits. Adaptations are permitted under CC BY-NC 4.0.
Permitted when the legal conditions are met
Support a historical analysis with a brief, proportionate quotation in quotation marks, crediting the author and source. The quotation exception does not permit replacing the original document with a copy.
Not permitted by the licence alone
Reproducing a chapter in a book sold commercially, selling a booklet containing the texts or using them in an advertisement requires permission, unless a legal exception applies.
Not permitted
Republishing the texts under your own name, removing required credits or presenting an adaptation as Yves’s original words does not comply with the reuse conditions.
No automatic permission
A third-party image is not licensed under CC BY-NC 4.0 simply because it appears here. Check its status and, where necessary, obtain permission from its rights holder.
For non-commercial use, please tell us what you have made: the project title, a short description, the texts used and a publication link or reference. We can then discuss featuring it in our Reuse section.
This is an invitation to share your work, not an additional licence condition or a requirement to seek prior permission. Your message will not be published automatically; we will agree with you on any information to be presented.
For texts whose rights they hold, contact Yves Cordelle’s heirs for prior written permission, unless a legal exception applies. Identify the passages, the medium, the expected print run or audience and the proposed distribution terms.
The form sends your request to Yohann Cordelle, who will forward it to the relevant heirs. Submitting a request does not grant permission. For a third-party work, permission must be obtained from its own rights holder.
