The WN 71, separated from the WN72 by the anti-tank wall across the road, consisted of two 80mm mortar pits on the cliff, machine gun positions or shooters.
Michel Hardelay:
"The 716th German Division had had two years to equip its various defence points; each had, in principle, two mortar pits, four machine gun positions, sometimes a machine gun on a warhead turning for aerial fire, a ten-metre underground shelter served by a gallery with two 50-metre remote exits and a cliffside fire control station; all served by a network of trenches and buried telephone links. Most of the works were concrete."
