Plan of the 2-burn bunker in the coast, facing Vierville picture below
The WN 72, at the bottom of the descent to the left, included a large concrete casemate with a long anti-tank gun PAK43 of 88 mm (this cannon is still in place), and a 50mm KWK cannon in a double-blading casemate that still exists. There were also positions of machine guns or shooters on the site, including a double-burning concrete, and a mortar postion, unconcrete. Michel Hardelay: "The maximum of the defenses was to protect and defend the access to the beach, that is to say the beach outings for the Allies. Thus in Vierville, in addition to the two positions on both sides of the valley had been sunk three blockhouses, one sheltered a 88mm cannon that could be pulled eastward by sweeping the beach and the boulevard, its embrasure was confused with the continuation of a hedge of tamaris planted on the slope of the roadside; the second, a small caliber cannon (50mm) on a swiveled watch and capable of firing in both lateral directions at the beach".
